Balmoral Show

Event Speaker

Ulster Bank & AgriKids

We were thrilled to be approached by Ulster Bank as part of their sponsorship at the Balmoral Show. Children all across Northern Ireland are being asked to write a farm safety story, using our character, Mr. Brambles. The Health and Safety Executive in Northern Ireland are also key partners in the initiative.

The challenge invited children to write a farm safety story with illustrations which included an incident in which one of the following farm dangers was emphasised: Slurry, Animals, Falls or Equipment. The character Mr Brambles, the magical hedge sprite was to be featured in the story as the friend or hero who saved the day. The competition is an opportunity for children in Northern Ireland to think about farm safety and the prevention of accidents by writing a fun story. Mr Brambles features in each of the ‘Tales From Riverside Farm’ books which are an excellent resource to teach children about farm safety.

The winners and their illustrations will be printed into a special edition of ‘Tales from Riverside Farm’ which will be available at the show and can be downloaded, the winning entries will also win tickets for their class to attend the show. The Balmoral Show 2016 takes place on 11th-13th May in Balmoral Park.

Last year Ulster Bank’s farm safety campaign called on children to submit drawings where the winning entry was made into an animation, the campaign went on to win a Gold PRIDE NI award.

The theme in each book relates to a different issue in farm safety such as machinery and livestock.
